World cup Cabo Verde online

In just a few days we are going to se some radical action from the waves of Cabo Verde including all of the top riders of the world. Guys are already on the island of Sal preparing for the final of this years tour. No doubt that it is going to be epic as always and to give everybody out there the best conditions to follow all the action closely, the event website www.caboverdeworldcup.com is going to bring you everything live while the event is on, so be sure to click through to the live action, riders section or even chip in with a little twitter tweet of yourself. Here are some words from the organisers about this years action:

Countdown to the PWA Cabo Verde 2010 finals:  The time is here and  excitment is high . For the first time in years the PWA finals will be decided in epic down the line conditions. As the title race is still wide open many of the forerunners are already here and getting used to the conditions in hopes of securing their place in windsurfing history. Current number 1  Victor Fernandez has been on the island since Oct.27 and had this to say . ” I came early in order to get very comfortable with the ocean conditions and overall vibe of this island. I also went very early to both Pozo and Denmark this year and that tactic paid off. So far here in Sal, I have surfed and windsurfed every day , pretty much alone and some days with just 1 or 2 people out. I am getting my equipment tuned up and am feeling comfortable. This is the first time I’ve ever entered the final event in first place and it definitely feels good . Here in Sal we’ve been well received and are having a great time. It’s definitely become one of my favorite places to visit.”

A name synonomous with Ponta Preta is 2 time event winner and 2 time world Champion, Josh Angulo who  we asked for his thoughts on the conditions this time of year.” November is typically the time o year when the trade winds return and the winter swells start rollling in. Everybody thinks it only works in Feb/ March, but actually many of our best sessions are in November and we pray this year turns out the same. I’m confident that between the 15th and 23rd we’ll get a bombing swell with wind and once again Ponta Preta will show why it is the world’s showcase event. This year beyond the windsurfing, the event has expanded into Santa Maria where we will have some awesome cultural events. The Cabo Verde event is basically becoming a must attend watersports festival with the coolest vibe possible. There will also be a live web-streaming which can be seen at www.caboverdeworldcup.com amongst other websites”

Also on island are 3 time world champion and 2008 event winner , Kauli Seadi ” It’s good to back in CV. I have a real affinity with the place. The people treat me like family and so I feel more and more at home each year. I’m in the run for the title and Victor has a lead which puts me in a position that I definitely need to win here to give myself a chance for the title. It will be a big challenge, but my equipment and focus is rock-solid so I go into the event feeling strong and looking forward to sailing here in Cabo Verde.”

First time visitor and windsurfing phenom Phillip Koster had his maiden voyage yesterday at Ponta Preta” Yesterday I was hanging out at the Angulo Beach Club because there was not much happening and Josh came and got me and said there was some small waves at Ponta Preta, so I headed over there with him. The waves were small and close to the rocks and the wind was very light, but it was cool to get my first session under my belt and Josh was telling me how to line up and show me some things so it was a good way to have my first ever Ponta experience.”

So with the main tour forerunners in the house and many of the Ponta Preta rippers on the way, the event is shaping up to be one of the biggest and baddest in the history of our sport.

Slalom secrets with Kurosh

Kurosh Kiani just published his first interactive article in the newly released issue of Windsurfer International uncovering all of the areas you need to take a look at when starting up slalom sailing. With a cool combination of video, pictures and articles Kurosh tells you all of his tricks when it comes to tuning sails. After speaking to him we find out that there is more coming, and apparently the next part will be about boards. We are super stoked having our boards out there and even more excited for our 2011 boards coming out just round the corner. Check our Kurosh´s article here.

Clew first 360 by Mark

We just revieced this fresh from Maui. Again Mark Angulo shows us, that he is still the guy to watch out for when it comes to ground breaking radical moves on the waves. Just like back in the days, Mark is still the trendsetter of modern style wavesailing. In this following sequence we see Mark in a clew first wave 360 at his home spot of Hookipa. The winter season of good waves is soon to come on Maui, so we hope to se more radical action like this during the next months of Maui winter time action.

Angulo Magnum action from Denmark

Kurosh Kiani sent us some great film from one of the biggest watersports events in Denmark for years, the WaterZ long distance event, which went on at the west coast of Denmark inside Ringkobing fjord. Big names like Antoine Albeau, Peter Volwater, Ross Williams and Robby Swift attended and took part in the first big downwind race in Denmark. The weather turned out perfect and the race was completed in perfect conditions with winds around 15-20 knots.

After the race, Kurosh put on his GoPro head cam to give us an impression og how it was racing in Hvide Sande that day together with some of the best windsurfers in the world. Check it out:

Cabo Verde Worldcup is ON!

The ultimate final of this years wave tour will now be on the world known break of Ponta Preta on the island of Sal. This opens up for a new and exciting opening for the world championship title, and what a place to finish it off. Usually the Cabo Verde event is at the beginning of the season, but this year it has been pushed to november 15-23. Will Josh Angulo make a one time appearence? Here is what he had to say himself:
“We’re firing on all cylinders at the prospect of closing the 2010 season in Cabo Verde. Historically the biggest finals ever were in Hawaii and now Cabo Verde has jumped into the driver’s seat with the billing of ‘best windsurf spot in the world’. The mixture of wavesailing’s legends clashing their epoxy swords with the PWA warriors of today should make for one of the heaviest showdowns of all time. The early winter period of November brings with it fresh ‘alizes’ breezes as well as pulsing Atlantic swells which combine for a lethal cocktail of ‘Ponta Preta on the rocks’. I personally look forward to a one-off wave competition appearance and will have to buckle down to try and hold my top spot in the lineup, but most of all I look forward to once again welcoming the world, alongside CapeVerde Investimentos and Camara Do Sal, to the friendly islands of Cabo Verde.”

Fuerteventura Worldcup

The PWA worldcup at Fuerteventura is already over and the tour continues on to Turkey where the next slalom worldcup will be starting on the 9th of august. Having been home for some days, our boy Kurosh Kiani gave us an update on what went down during the days of the slalom worldcup. Five days of full on racing action out on the beaches of Sotavento on the south of Fuerteventura brought us lots of good action to be followed live and by daily videos. Here is what Kurosh had to say together with a short video from the whole event:

The Fuerteventura worldcup was by far the race that i had been looking the most forward to during this season. Finally getting to race at a place with lots of wind and perfect conditions. I was already on Fuerteventura 10 days before the racing would start and spent a big amount of time racing and tuning up with my danish mates who had also come with me.

I picked up Josh just one day before the event, and i could feel that he came all fired up and full of energy, whereas i maybe had burnt off some of mine during those 10 days that i was there before him. A lesson to bring with me for upcoming years.

Those five days that the race was on were quite hard, but i had some of the best fun ever. Why? Because personally i went through lots of changes during these days. I went from being totally nervous and not being able to pull if off to being confident and going for it during one day.

Josh was there to psyche me up and get me racing out there. Of course you cannot learn everything at once. It is a very long process, but being around on Fuerteventura this year gave me loads of new input to equipment, racing and my mental game. I mean, i have been here before and raced, but this time it was with other dimensions which gave me huge amounts of motivation go get out there for the next race and do better. Both Josh and Myself had great speed in out boards which were almost built perfectly for this place when you think of the sizes. We were on out small Magnum62 almost the whole time with sails from 5,5-7,8.

Josh was doing constant finals and loosers finals while i was not making the semi-finals, which is fine by now as i had different goals, which Josh and i agreed on before the contest. Again, i can not say how much fun it was racing with all your freinds around and just having pure fun. It was just like the old days when i started windsurfing, cruising around with your freinds out on the sea. I am saying this because it is very easy to forget the fun factor when you are in the middle of it. But this time it was all so clear and we are all excited to hit Turkey for the upcoming PWA slalom worldcup.

Now our roads have gone seperate ways and i am in Denmark re packing all my bags to take them back to the airport. Wind in Denmark is still on a summer vacation, but if i am lucky a day or two of sailing can happen before hitting Turkey where lighter winds normally dominate the venue.

PWA Costa Brava

The PWA slalom worldcup in Costa Brava ended up with nearly two eliminations finished being the event this year with the least time on the water. None the less, our guys were on the water getting a piece of the pie. Lots of waiting time and shifty weather made it impossible to run more rounds and the shift for our team has now switched over to the next worldcup which will be in windy Fuerteventura. Battle of the paddle

The Angulo(GU) crew was represented with the latest SUP line at the Battle of the Paddle event in Oahu, Hawaii. The complete Angulo SUP line was available for everyone to try and lots of good feedback was recieved during these days. Legend Ed Angulo sent us an update on the event, here is what he had to say: “Just got back from a weekend on Oahu at The Battle of the Paddle. Great event with an assortment of races for all ages and abilities. I even raced in the Open, and was happy to have finished. Our complete SUP lineup was available for all to Demo and the response was terrific. Gave some beginner lessons and had people say that their time paddling was the highlight of their vacation.The pictures are of my wife Patty (mother of the champion watermen Mark and Josh and champion electrician Andy). That’s Mark and his wife Elena (who is a Hookipa rippah herself) and me in our booth at the event. Looking forward to participating at the next event which will be in October at Dana Point California.”
