Junior Camp in Denmark

Junior Camp in Denmark

Our rider Kurosh Kiani sent us this report from his summer break back in Denmark where he recently joined a kids junior camp. Here is a small story from a week full of windsurfing fun by Kurosh.

For the slalom sailors of the world there has been a small break in between all of the world cup competition and what not the last couple of weeks. The summer is now at its full high in Denmark and probably the best time that you can catch in the world right this moment.

Not long after I came back from the lovely island of Aruba I set out on a mission again, but this time a completely different one. This time I was not in focus but a big group of kids who had chosen to spend the first week of their summer vacation windsurfing until they dropped.

The destination was the area of Ringkobing Fjord which is big enclosed lake connecting to the west coast of Denmark. This area is known for bringing the most amount of windy days during the year.

My friend Lars and I headed over there from Copenhagen and met up with all of the youngsters who were already setting up camp for the next 5 days. After a while all of their parents left and there was now only one thing on their minds, and that was to hit the water. I cannot believe how much motivation there was in these youngsters. I woke up the first morning around 7.30 and peaked outside the window of the van and I could see them rigging up already. Jeeez. Well I just had to follow along, but I knew that I would probably be the last man standing, so I put on the wetsuit and head out on the water.

I was amazed how good these kids were. Nearly everyone of them could gybe and they were just racing around me like small champions. We did many hours of coaching for each of their individual needs until it was lunchtime. After that we hit the water again and windsurfed until no one could hold on to the boom anymore. Thats exactly how I remember it from the time I was at their age, I just couldn’t get enough, and I cant say how big of a motivation it was for me personally to hang out with all of these motivated kidsters.

This was basically the program the days we had wind. We also had couple of days without wind where we spent out energy on some story telling from around the world, some sports and general chill out true surfer style.

The last day we closed it all down by setting up a big fire to make bread on stick and of course marshmallows along with some classical campfire singing. It was great fun and these kids brought us great entertainment and joy.

In the end the camp was packed up and all of the parents came by to pick up the youngsters who now were equipped with lots of new knowledge and technique to challenge the upcoming Danish summer conditions.

The PWA worldcup in Ulsan is over and the Angulo team returns with victory as Josh makes it all the way to 3rd place making it his best slalom result yet. The result of extensive R&D work on the Magnum boards is now showing its results making this years Magnum range the ultimate weapon for slalom battle.

The Ulsan PWA event was long and offered difficult wind conditions but with his combination of the Magnum boards and the 2011 Gun Sails Josh managed to stay consistently in the top finishing it off with a final win.

Here is a couple from Josh about his podium finish at Jinha Beach, Ulsan: “Feels Good! After some trials and tribulations in trying to get my slalom legs, I finally managed to get a podium finish for the first time in my slalom career. The hard work in developing the new Magnums combined with Gun Sails substantial R&D program has finally given me the equipment to battle with the best of em’. I don’t want to get ahead of myeslf and I know I have to continue to take it one start and one jibe at time, but I can definitely say that I have a greater motivation than ever before to keep tuning my equipment for maximum effeciency. Thanks to all the friends out there who have been very supportive !
