Met Tulpe

Hi Everybody,
My name is Tulpe Born and I have been a windsurf instructor for over 15 years and greatfully last winter I started to recieve support from Josh with equipment. I have just spent yet another fantastic winter season on Sal/ Cabo Verde where I was working in a windsurf center alongside the Angulo center. Although the centre I work in promotes different brands to Angulo, I can usually be found with a Chango under my feet. Josh asked me several times to write on this Blog about why I love to ride Angulo boards so much but up until now I have not got around to doing it, as riding them is far more fun than sitting on a computer and writing about it (especially when any of the numerous wavespots on Sal is going off). But now that the dust is settling on yet another fabulous winterseason and I find myself twidling my thumbs back home in Germany whilst I wait for the highseason to start in Greece I seem to be daydreaming more and more about my babies (boards) and thought I would take this opportunity to put some words together.

Why do I use Angulo-Boards? For the simple reason that they make me ride a lot better. The Changos turn so well and help my waveriding a great deal. The board let’s me do what I have in mind and I am not restricted by my equipment. Wide or tight turns, the Chango doesn’t mind, it just carries the speed through any turn. What I do with the next wave is up to me and not the board’s specs. I am not a boardtester from a magazine but I can certainly tell when a board feels good and when it doesn’t. Well, my Changos feel great and they rock and they made me a better sailor. And to me that’s what matters…
See you on C.V.

2009 Ulsan World Cup, Korea

My time in Jinha beach was fulfilling and encouraging. This being the second slalom event of the year, I felt that I was finding my “competition legs” and sailing  better. My equipment combo was starting to get really dialled in and especially when the wind got a bit stronger was I feeling real good. I still have so much to learn in slalom racing and the repetition is the best possible experience, so I encourage anyone who is interested in any kind of racing to get out and do any event possible, because there is always some lesson that we need to learn to deal with and it’s not always on the water. The highlight for me was the confidence gained in my gear. The 8.4 is one of the easiest and best sails I’ve ever ridden…… period.

The TR-5 is soooo quick around a course in actual real race conditions because it adapts to so many weird wind/ water sitiuations that come hand in hand with slalom racing. Also my Magnum line is really coming into it’s own and I am proud and pleased that our direction we chose with the longer style board with the RTA and RNA concepts is truly proving to be a great product. The Magnums have given me the ease to get around the course that is a big confidence booster. It was also great to see the high level of Peter (who had a bit of bad luck ) and Gonzalo, who finished right in front of me in 7th. We truly do have a sick team and I expect Maui Sails dominance to grow even stronger.

Aloha,
Josh Angulo CV-1

Munich Paradise

Here’s some photos of some downtime in between the Austria and Korea event. If you look closely you will see windsurf legend Bjorn Schrader, and Andy Laufer , also present are multi-entrepeneurs Christian Grosse and Peter Stengel. We had  an awesome group of the female sort with Queen Claudia  headlining. We had an awesome time BBq’ing and hanging out at Christian’s pad at. In the paddleboard race it was peter  that deftly kicked my butt. It was one of the prettiest days I’ve ever seen in Europe and their was a magical group of personalities that made the day ultra-special… Thanks you guys ! and Thanks Christian for making sure the bbq was turning out lots of grinds!

Boardwise - Surfstore in UK

I’m pleased to say that we have opened up some new relationships in the UK with both the surfstore and Boardwise shop. I didn’t get a chance to get up to surfstore yet personally, but hope to do so  this summer at some point. I did get however to spend some time with Boardwise crew  and their trusty Captain at the helm, Ian Gregorelli. Ian and I got on well as we are both second generation windsurf family business guys.  He also taught me some british terminology… “How’s tricks?” Those guys had a huuuuuuuuuge selection of used gear and now have some used and new Angulo boards in there as well as some new ones on the way now to both Surfstore and Boardwise. Pictured here, is a young lad, whos name escapes me , but was visiting in the shop and was on his way to and RS-X race in France…. Nice kid, he’ll probably end up being an Olympic or World Champ and you saw him first at anguloboards.com. Make sure you guys visit boardwise in person or drop then a line and if you’re a bit further North, ring up the crew at Surfstore.

Aloha, Josh

Podersdorf report

This was my first ever trip to Austria and therefore first ever time to Podersdorf. Event Organizer, Gerhard Polak and his team throw one of the best organized parties I’ve ever seen. Austrian precision, with an easy atmosphere. Angulo boards was in full force with our own display stand and our loyal team , of Gozi” the emigrant” ” clean Christina” and the Seve “munich Puppydog”. The Magnums drew lots of attention as well a our new line of t-shirts. It was quite uplifting for me to get in the mix of the windsurf/ business  scene of central europe and get feedback from guys from Germany, france, Ukraine, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Norway, UK, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic, Turkey and of course Austria.

Although, my result was dissapointing, I was actually pleased with a new technique I learned to bounce back quick from the pain of mistakes and bad results in racing. This was taught to me by the ” godfather” Phil Mcgain and since he’s getting ready for a world domination triathalon circuit, I can’t give away his secrets. Let’s just say, my spirits are high, confidence level full and ready for Korea. In the meantime I’m off to Munich for a 3 day networking tour, where my wife will meet me. She’s bringing me all my light wind slalom fins that the airline lost before Austria, So although that was a total bummer at the time, I now get to see my best friend for 3 days, which was otherwise not on the program….. wooo hoooo!

Trip to UK

Couple weeks ago I had a fantastic trip to the UK, where my good friend Helen Jordan put me on one of her world class race  horses and I gave the whole family some entertainment when I almost got thrown off, when Harry ( the youngest) got me going on a little run. I was in the corral and they said I was safe, but safe was the farthest feeling . The Jordan family were perfect hosts and Mike and I got to meet the legend Ian , from Boardwise, before I got dropped into the warm company of Dawn and John Pooley, who let me break the speed limit on their new boat on the way visiting Simon in West Wittering from Hayling island where I had the joy of meeting one of UK’s greatest windsurf characters Andy Biggs. All in all, it was my first experience in UK outside of London and was treated by everyone with unbelievable hospitality and enjoyed some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen….. Thanks everyone !

Hi guys heres some shots of Davide , one of our center managers ( he’s on the challenger sail) and Mathieu ( Maui Sails), the UCPA manager, who is one of our right hand guys here in Cabo Verde. Its good to see the boys getting some much needed waves despite their heavy workload. I guess thats one of the benefits of working in CV……
