Pozo
Today was day 1 for me at Pozo. I had my first heat against Cyril Moussilmani and we both sailed well, but I got the upper hand and advanced through. MY next heat I had Gran Canaria Phenom Philip Koester. I honestly had one of my better heats for me at Pozo and Philip got the better of me making one of the cleanest doubles I’ve ever seen as well as goiters, takas, flakas and whatever else those kids are doing nowadays. Its really fun watching the level that the new generation has taken it to. Looks like slalom is on the cards for tomorrow a.m. and that should be pretty psycho as the wind is really blasting and when the tide fills in maybe there will be enough waves to finish the finals……. MY PREDICTIONS ? First heat up Koester vs. Campello… This could go either way, two guys with a lot of tricks up their sleeves. But those guys are potential event winners , so will be one of the biggest heats of the day. If Ricardo keeps his head on I see the heat slanting his way. Ceballos vs. Seadi……. If real windy, I could see Jonas taking the win. However , most of the times guys try to do too much against Kauli and end up blowing their heat. Kauli could have a small edge on the waves as far as milking long rides, but Jonas has been sailing great and can pull all the tricks…. Kauli’s edge is the double and the mythical push forwrad which we have to see this year. Joneas has more heigth and very smooth at Pozo .Kauli by a split decision ? Ojeda vs. Mussolini…… Two unbelieveable Pozo rippers both Spanish. They’ve both been impressive this year . Dario seems to have gotten more consistent and has a large reperetoire of wave maneuvers which has been his strong point thus far dismantling Swift and Pritchard. Could suffer from being underpowered and trying too many takas, but has a good chance at victory if he sails to his level. Alex M. has been sailing out of his mind so far and if he keeps it up could be a threat to Victor. Alex’s weak points is normally consistency , but this year is looking rock solid so far. I would say he has a slight jumping advantage over Dario and has as many wave moves with more boost in his forward off the lips. This heat really depends on who “shows up”. Alex by a hair. Fernandez vs Voget… Two rippers and not to take anything away from Klaas, but Victor is still the stand out at Pozo and I don’t see Klaas touching him. Victor by a clear margin. Well that’s it for today.
Aloha

Which boards did you use?, and howd they feel?.
Josh!!! From all reports is was the equivalent to running an F1 Grand Prix in the rain. Anything can happen and everything is up for grabs. Keep pounding.
Day 2 for me ( its actually day 3 of the event, but i didnt compete the first day) at Pozo was pretty radical. We started the slalom where my mast snapped right before the start of my first heat. The PWA had a very lax water security and it took me a while to get in, much longer than the 6 minutes I had available, so I got dead last that round. Next round, I went over-early in the semis. I think I was a bit anxious after that bad first round and then in the losers final was coming in second to the first mark with a good chance to overtake and lost control and went down hard, I managed to pass two guys for a 18th position. So off to a poor start, but I know I’ll climb back strong. Finnian won race 1 and he’s probably pretty stoked , but Ross Williams with a 2nd and a 3rd was looking real strong. Antoine dominated the 2nd final, before we switched to the waves. As per my predictions from yesterday, I was wrong about Campello and Koster. Koster absolutely smoked Campello and Campello sailed pretty bad. Ceballos vs. Seadi, I called a split decision for Kauli, I didnt see if it was a split decision, but Jonas took the win, so wrong there as well. Between Dario and Alex, both those guys sailed under their skill but Dario got the better waves and won the heat, once again I was wrong. Victor vs. Klaas… This was a weird one. I guess one of Victor’s waves pushed him through, Victor sailed very poorly for him and Klaas sailed quite good. Looke like Klaas maybe had it, but victor won. I was right in that Victor won, but it definitely wasn’t a clear margin which I had predicted yesterday. In the semis, it seemd like everybody was falling but all those guys are so good that they still pul some big moves. Koster sailed head and shoulders above everyone and cruiesd into the finals, Dario smoked Victor on wave scores but failed to produce any high jump scores. Victor also looked weak in this heat, but once again, somehow got through. I thought Dario had that one. THE FINALS….. What Can I say, the guy that used to be the best at Pozo, got a thorough spanking by a 15 year old kid. Koster sailed as good as you could possibly “mindsail” Pozo and this was confounded by Victor having his 3rd consecutive “struggle” , falling a lot and just looking out of sorts. Philip, the new king of Pozo, 15 years old, humble , mellow and an incredible talent with many years ahead….. very exciting!
Adam, to ansewer your question about which board I was riding. Its an old Pozo prototype of mine, that I pulled out of the dust and spraypainted a Cabo Verde flag on. Its working sick and I expect to fight back hard in the losers round
cheers josh, an good luck!
Hi Josh and good luck!
